Former Washington Huskies' star wide receiver Rome Odunze played the best game of his young NFL career on Sunday - reeling in seven catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Both his reception and receiving yard totals set career highs for him, while his two touchdowns matched a career high he set last season against the San Francisco 49ers.
Through two games, Odunze's stats are among the best in the NFL at the wide receiver position:

Odunze was the primary source of Chicago's offense in Sunday's matchup against the NFC North rival Detroit Lions. His first touchdown came on a 28-yard catch and run on a third-and-9 play, which tied the game at seven early in the first quarter.
Detroit would go on to score two touchdowns before Odunze once again found the end zone to pull the Bears back into the game. It was a play that looked all too familiar to Washington fans: Odunze went into motion pre-snap, appearing to cross the field before suddenly reversing back at the snap of the ball. The motion caused enough confusion to set him free, and Caleb Williams found him wide open for the score.

Sadly for Odunze and the Bears, that was the closest they would ever get on the scoreboard for the rest of the game. Detroit proceeded to dominate in the second half on both sides of the ball - winning by a final score of 52-21. The Bears are now 0-2 on the season.
However, Odunze's coolest highlight arguably came in the fourth quarter of the blowout. On third-and-15, Odunze broke his defender's ankles on a route, which drew a defensive pass interference flag. Still, Odunze fought through the contact and made a beautiful catch , and even broke a tackle to gain additional yardage.

Through two games, fans are already predicting this to be a breakout season for Odunze. He's clearly becoming Williams' favorite target to throw to, and with how the Bears' first two games have gone, it's likely they will be throwing the ball a lot. Right now, Odunze is on pace for 1400 receiving yards, 110 receptions, and 25 touchdowns.
Fantasy football players are also happy with Odunze's Week 2 performance, as he racked up 31.8 points in standard PPR leagues - fourth among wide receivers. Odunze's average points per week is now 23.8, which is also fourth at the position. For Week 3, he's projected a healthy 15.3 points as he takes on a Dallas Cowboys team that just allowed 450 passing yards to the New York Giants.
It's great to see a Husky fan-favorite from the national championship team shine again on the biggest stage, proving us right and his doubters wrong. It's safe to say huge things are in store for Odunze, and it will be a treat to watch every week.
