It must have been incredibly difficult to be the guy to follow up the remarkable career that Myles Gaskin had. I mean, the sort of standard that Gaskin established while dominating opposing defenses and then scribbling his name all throughout the UW football record book was just incredible. He established quite the legacy as he ran for 1000 or more yards on four different occasions.

And Salvon Ahmed was able to step in, see those records, and then run for 1000 yards himself. During the 2019 season, Ahmed managed to run for 1020 yards, which gave him the 21st season of a Washington Husky running for 1000 or more yards.

That’s not bad.

Ahmed also pretty quietly had a solid career. We’re talking about a guy who managed to run for 2016 yards throughout his career, spanning from 2017 to 2019. He accomplished quite a bit.

Washington Husky football history: Salvon Ahmed tallied the 21st 1000-yard rushing season in 2019

During the 2019 season, Ahmed averaged 5.4 yards per carry and scored 11 touchdowns on the ground for the Huskies. He was a huge reason as to why UW was able to go 8-5 throughout the 2019 season as he played in 12 games and had multiple performances where he ran for 100 or more yards in a game.

Like against the USC Trojans, a game in which he ran for 153 yards. Or the Oregon State Beavers, who allowed him to get 174 yards. The Oregon Ducks also allowed for Ahmed to rush for 140 yards. And then there was the Arizona Wildcats, who gave up three rushing touchdowns to Ahmed.

In what was a pretty significant transition year for the Washington Husky football team, Ahmed helped carry the Huskies forward. He helped provide plenty of yards and quite a few touchdowns in a season that UW definitely needed someone to step up and provide a spark.
