Just one season after Corey Dillon bulldozed just about everyone in sight en route to an incredible season that had him near 1,700 rushing yards, Rashaan Shehee managed to make his mark on Washington Husky football history and he did it in a pretty impressive and efficient manner.
Look, following up Dillon’s incredible outburst of rushing yards is a hard thing to do. But Shehee was solid for the Huskies and he happened to have a really solid showing for UW throughout the 1997 season. I mean, we’re talking about a guy who played in just nine games and still had over 1,000 yards rushing. Talk about being an efficient running back, you know?
During the 1997 season, Shehee had 1,055 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on just 168 carries. That’s good for an average of 6.3 rushing yards per carry. That’s really good!
Washington Husky football history: Rashaan Shehee was really efficient for UW in 1997
Shehee started the season strong, gaining 171 yards on just a dozen carries (which is good for 14.3 yards per carry) and the BYU Cougars. After a bit of a dip against San Diego State and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Shehee went out and thrived for a few games.
Against the likes of the Arizona State Sun Devils, California Golden Bears, Arizona Wildcats, and Oregon State Beavers, Shehee thrived, running for at least 124 yards against the four foes. He also managed to score SEVEN touchdowns in those four games. That’s just great.
He did only get three carries against the USC Trojans and then was out against the Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, and the Apple Cup. Which, you know, ain’t great.
But once Shehee was able to get back out on the field against the Michigan State Spartans, he made up for missing a few games and had 29 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns during the 1997 Aloha Bowl to cap the season.
