And would you look at that? Another remarkable season from Myles Gaskin. The man continued to thrive and opposing defenses couldn’t really do enough to truly slow down a huge reason for the Washington Huskies having substantial success in 2016.
Just a season after Gaskin ran for 1,000 or more yards the first time (which he would end up doing some more in the future in really impressive ways), Gaskin happened to carve through, plow over, and beat up opposing defenses once again to run for 1,373 yards and 10 touchdowns on 237 carries (which averages out to 5.8 yards per carry).
For a moment, let’s look at some poor, unfortunate souls that had to meet up with them. Take the Oregon Ducks, for example. We’re talking about a Washington Husky team that truly didn’t seem all that phased over the fact that Washington was taking on the Ducks. And we’re talking about how Gaskin ran for 197 yards (all while averaging 12.7 yards per carry).
Washington Husky football history: Myles Gaskin continued to be unreal and great for the Huskies in 2016
Gaskin also managed to run for 151 yards against the likes of the Utah Utes (good for 7.9 yards per carry), 128 yards against the Oregon State (7.1 yards per carry), 159 yards against Colorado in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
During the 2016 season, Gaskin ran for 100 or more yards on seven different occasions. He managed to score a touchdown in eight different matches and then also ran for 100 or more yards on seven different occasions, which is a lot of occurrences.
This was his second consecutive season of running for 1,000 or more yards and it certainly would not be his last. In fact, this was part of an unprecedented stretch where a team had someone run for 1000 or more yards in a season. Gaskin truly was remarkable and his career should absolutely be something more folks are familiar with.
