The Washington Huskies didn’t manage to get anyone to 1,000 rushing yards during the 1995 season, but Corey Dillon made sure to break through that threshold (with absolute ease and in an incredible way) during the 1996 season.
Dillon absolutely drove the vast majority of the Washington Huskies offense back in 1996 and he managed to have a lot of success in the process. There wasn’t really any single defense that managed to slow Dillon down. The dude just kept gashing opponents for yards on a VERY regular basis and in a VERY impressive way.
The man managed to have a remarkable (and terrifying) 301 carries during the 1996 season. 301. That’s a ridiculous amount of carries. It truly is a shame that Washington only had Dillon for one season, but he certainly gave the Huskies everything he had as he ran for 1,695 yards.
THAT’S INSANE.
Washington Husky football history: Corey Dillon was just flat out remarkable as he ran over defenses in 1996
Okay, look, there was one defense that gave Dillon a little bit of trouble. The Arizona State Sun Devils did hold him to 36 yards on just seven carries. And then maybe let’s talk about BYU, who limited Dillon to 82 yards. And then sure okay yeah Notre Dame had Dillon at 87 yards.
That’s fine to acknowledge. You want to know why? Because outside of those three games, Dillon ran for AT LEAST 125 YARDS.
Against the Oregon Ducks, Dillon happened to get an incredible 259 yards. We’re talking about a guy who ran for 222 yards against San Jose State. He had six games where he ran for at least 140 yards. In three different games, he had at least three touchdowns. He happened to have three games where he had 35 OR MORE carries. The dude scored five touchdowns against the UCLA Bruins.
He was incredible! I mean, just flat out astounding. It must have been so much fun to watch him run against opposing defenses.
