Reliving Washington’s 1000-yard rushing seasons: Chris Polk, 2010

Chris Polk was really good at this whole “college football” thing. And by “really good” I mean he was absolutely remarkable at running the ball and crushing opponents and gaining absurd amounts of yards against opposing defenses.

The Washington Huskies truly were fortunate to have Polk on their roster. Each and every season, Polk made a huge impact on the Huskies offense and his sophomore season certainly indicated just how good he could be.

In his second season of blowing up opposing defenders, Polk managed to run for a grand total of 1,415 yards all while scoring nine touchdowns on the ground. That, folks, is better than what we saw from the remarkable and talented (he was remarkably talented, to be honest) running back in 2010.

Washington Husky football history: Chris Polk did it again and ran for another 1,000+ yards in 2010

I mean, we’re talking about a guy who, in 2010, ran for 284 yards in a single game (shoutout to the Washington State Cougars who allowed for Polk to run for 284 yards in the Apple Cup, that was great to see). In six of UW’s 13 games in 2010, Polk managed to run for 100 or more yards.

He simply could not be stopped.

These are all the teams he ran for 100 or more yards against:

  • Syracuse Orange (117 yards)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (110 yards)
  • Oregon State Beavers (105 yards)
  • UCLA Bruins (138 yards)
  • Washington State Cougars (284 yards)
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers (177 yards)

In that Holiday Bowl against Nebraska, Polk had an absurd 34 carries against the Huskers. Just insane to be that durable and to punish a team like that at that point in the season.

And of course, it is absolutely worth noting that Polk helped Washington make it back to a bowl game after years of not having much success. He absolutely deserves a ton of credit and recognition for being a key reason why UW had success.
