Such a cool name. Just, you know, a great football name. And also a great name in general. In addition to having one of the greatest names in Washington Husky football history, Napoleon Kaufman also had some of the most impressive rushing performances that UW fans have been able to see and support. And in 1992, Kaufman racked up his first 1000-yard rushing season.

This season really helped showcase just what Kaufman was capable of. Through it, he ran for 1,084 yards and scored seven touchdowns, but he averaged 6.0 yards per carry and managed to really break through to have a pretty strong impact during this season.

And of course, it all started as he managed to run for 159 yards on a grand total of six carries against the Arizona State Sun Devils in UW’s first game of the season. That’s a lot of yards on a small amount of carries.

If you don’t want to do math at home, that’s good for 26.5 yards per carry. Which is a lot of yards per carry.

Kaufman followed that up with a trio of underwhelming performances as he gained just 128 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries while facing the Wisconsin Badgers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and USC Trojans.

But, things changed shortly after that. Kaufman had a stellar performance against the California Golden Bears and he gained a season high 208 yards (as well as a couple of touchdowns) on 30 carries against Cal.

And that really helped propel the Huskies forward.

UW would end up going down the stretch with some more solid performances from Kaufman and the Huskies found themselves in the Rose Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines. All of this was part of Kaufman’s first 1000-yard rushing season. He had an incredible year. And the subsequent seasons were even better for him.
