The fourth Washington Husky to ever run for at least 1000 yards in a season managed to do so six seasons after the third did. In 1984, Jacque Robinson accomplished what only a trio of Washington football players had managed to do before him..

For those keeping track at home, Hugh McElhenny was first back in 1950, Rob Rowland was second in 1976, and then Joe Steele (incredible football name, folks) did it in 1978. Now, in 1984, we’ve got Jacque Robinson (also a fun football name that deserves recognition) putting up over 1000 rushing yards in a season.

And Robinson was really impressive all throughout the 1984 football season. I mean, there is the fact that he ran for 1036 yards on 223 carries (which equals out to 4.6 yards per carry), but he also had five games with at least 100 yards rushing.

Washington Husky football history: Jacque Robinson (great name) was the fourth Husky to run for at least 1000 yards in a season

Oh, and we can talk about a trend here. That Apple Cup thing? Where you run for a bunch of yards against your rival and then also happen to land up in this exclusive group? Yeah, Robinson also did that. He ran for a season-high 160 yards against the Washington State Cougars. Not as much as some of his predecessors, but that’s still strong.

OH! And it’s worth noting that Robinson was a huge reason as to why the Huskies managed to get to the Orange Bowl to meet up (and then beat) the Oklahoma Sooners. In that Orange Bowl meeting with Oklahoma, Robinson ran for 135 yards.

He was just really, really good. Washington managed to get double digit wins (a lovely 11-1 record to brag about) with Robinson’s help and the Huskies finished with the No. 2 ranking in the country.
