Penalties have been a problem for the Washington Huskies as they face the Washington State Cougars and it’s caused a number of different issues. Like the fact that Wazzu has been able to sustain drives and keep moving. And Washington State’s offense absolutely does not need additional help. And yet, they’ve been given additional help.

Thankfully, the Huskies found a breath of new life thanks to a thrilling play from cornerback Thaddeus Dixon. While the Huskies have been giving the Cougars plenty of drive sustaining help in the form of penalties, Washington State quarterback John Mateer came to the aid of the Huskies by way of a beautiful interception.

Dixon’s interception couldn’t have come at a much better time and he was able to take the pick back with a 21 yard return, setting up the Huskies offense to have a chance in the 2024 Apple Cup.

Washington Husky football: Thaddeus Dixon snags perfect interception in 4th quarter of Apple Cup

You’ve got to see this play.

This turnover could really help the Huskies as it not only brings a halt to Washington State’s successful offense, it also gives the Huskies a chance to march down the field late in the game. We’ll see if the Huskies are able to do anything with the ball though. That remains to be seen.

The clock is winding down in the Apple Cup. Washington won’t get many more chances and the Huskies definitely won’t get many more momentum shifting opportunities in this game. They absolutely must make the most of this interception to have a real shot at coming away with a comeback win in the Apple Cup.

Otherwise, Jedd Fisch will start his tenure as the head coach of the Huskies with a loss to his in-state rival. And that’s not exactly fun to talk about.
