If you find yourself hoping for a bit of revenge against the Michigan Wolverines, I can’t guarantee you that, but I can point out that the Wolverines are really having a hard time in week one against the likes of the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Michigan, the week six opponent for the Washington Huskies and the most recent team to beat Washington, has found itself in a concerningly close game against Fresno State to get the 2024 season started. That’s not really a bad thing if you’re a Washington football fan, but it’s probably not fun if you like Michigan.

The Wolverines, traditionally viewed as a powerhouse program and college football blue blood, are showing some signs of vulnerability in their season opener against Fresno State. The national title winner is having a grand old time starting this season defending its title.

Coming up on the end of the third quarter, Michigan has found itself having a hard time getting into the end zone and the Wolverines are holding onto a slim 13-3 lead against the Bulldogs. That’s going to get plenty of attention across the country, but especially in places like Seattle.

In particular, the Wolverines’ offense has struggled to really get any sort of life. So far, this is a group that has only gained 194 total yards and has only scored one touchdown. Davis Warren, the new starting quarterback for the Wolverines, has only managed to throw for 100 yards while completing 14 of 23 passes. Oh, and he’s thrown a pick.

Michigan’s rushing attack is having a hard time getting into the open field as the Wolverines have run for just 91 yards on 26 attempts.

The defensive side of things looks good, but Michigan looks mortal. Here’s to hoping that this trend continues and the Huskies are able to take advantage of that later this season when the two teams meet up in a rematch of last season’s national championship game.
