Washington Huskies’ week 12 foe crushed in Big Ten conference game during week 5
By Ethan Lee
It’s going to be more than just a few weeks before Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies meet up with the UCLA Bruins, but it’s worth noting how UW’s fellow former Pac-12 colleague was beaten over the weekend.
The UCLA Bruins suffered a humbling 34-13 defeat in conference play. And who did the Bruins get beaten by? Well, it was by another former Pac-12 team that migrated on over to Big Ten. The Oregon Ducks. With the loss to Oregon, UCLA is now sitting at a dismal 1-3 on the season and they’re 0-2 in Big Ten play.
UCLA has certainly seemed flawed throughout the first quarter of the season, but this game might be the best example of how to handle this particular Bruins team.
And for a Washington Huskies team that will likely be searching for a way to get to a bowl, this game might become pretty important for UW this season. So, it’s important for the Huskies to start keeping tabs on the Bruins right now.
UCLA Bruins, the week 12 foe for the Washington Huskies, humbled by Oregon Ducks in week 5 matchup
UCLA’s offense simply couldn’t get going in this game, despite the fact that the Bruins were playing at home. Ethan Garbers hasn’t had much fun up to this point in the season, but this might be his least inspiring performance as he completed just 12 of 20 pass attempts for a meager 118 yards, zero touchdowns, and two pucks,
On the ground, TJ Harden led the way for the Bruins, but 13 carries for 53 yards simply isn’t going to be enough to get a win over a team like Oregon. There’s just too much talent on Oregon’s roster, even if it hasn’t lived up to its full potential yet.
The Bruins were able to get on the board with a touchdown that is worth noting here. A 96-yard pick six courtesy of Bryan Adams helped UCLA out a bit right before halftime, but it just wasn’t anywhere near enough.
UCLA’s defense showed some promise in this game, but the Bruins feel like an incomplete team. That should pave a way for Washington to get a nice conference win later this season, but we’ll see how it actually plays out.
