The start of the 2024 college football season is here. Well, it’s been here for a few days now. Week zero was last week and we’ve already had a few Big Ten games get going this week. Technically speaking, the Washington Huskies are going to play one of the last games on the schedule for the Big Ten in week one.

But, well, that’s a topic for another time. Because the Huskies are getting their start in the Big Ten this week and they’re hosting the Weber State Wildcats in the process.

The 2024 Washington Huskies football season gets started against an FCS foe. While that might not be the most thrilling matchup ever, it’s actually not a bad way to get a new era of Washington Husky football started under first-year UW head coach Jedd Fisch.

Let’s get a win, build some momentum, build some confidence, and move forward into week two trying to get another strong victory, shall we?

Let’s take a gander at everything you need to know for this game between the Huskies and Wildcats.

Key things to know

  • Washington gets started in the Big Ten
  • Jedd Fisch coaches his first game in Seattle
  • Weber State and Washington meet for the first time

3 Weber State Wildcats to watch:

  1. Richie Muñoz, QB - While Muñoz might not be the most physically imposing quarterback ever, the sophomore passer still looked solid as a freshman at the FCS level as he threw for 1054 yards and 10 touchdowns in five games.
  2. Damon Bankston, RB - Joining Muñoz in the backfield is junior running back Damon Bankston (who is also a team captain) and ran for 388 yards in five games in 2023.
  3. Brayden Wilson, DE - A junior defensive end earning some preseason All-Big Sky recognition, Wilson managed to rack up 16.5 tackles for loss for the Wildcats during the 2023 Weber State football season.

3 Washington Huskies to watch:

  1. Will Rogers III, QB - The seasoned quarterback who made his way to Seattle from Starkville posted prolific passing numbers in the Air Raid in the SEC, but how will he do in a new system while surrounded by new faces in the Big Ten?
  2. Jeremiah Hunter, WR - A likely significant target for Rogers and the offense this season, Hunter managed to catch 143 passes for 2056 yards and 13 touchdowns across 23 starts for the California Golden Bears.
  3. Jonah Coleman, RB - Hey look, a third transfer on the offensive side of things for the Washington Huskies. Coleman followed Jedd Fisch to Montlake and the familiarity he has with the offense that Fisch and Brennan Carroll developed will be important for the Huskies.

How to watch Washington host Weber State:

This is an opportunity to get the season started off on the right foot. It’s a chance to get an easy win and start the process of getting this roster that came together very quickly to gel as they get set to face tougher tests down the stretch of this season.
