Let’s get set for a rematch of a national championship game, shall we?
As part of the Washington Huskies’ move from the Pac-12 into the Big Ten, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Husky football team now gets the distinct pleasure of meeting up with teams like the Michigan Wolverines on a more regular basis.
Which, given that Michigan beat the Huskies in last season’s college football playoff national championship game, there’s sure to be a lot of interest in this particular matchup.
So, it’s fitting that the Huskies will host a “Purple Out” at The Greatest Setting in College Football on October 5 as the Huskies host the Wolverines in Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. The Huskies announced this game theme, along with several others, back in April.
Washington vs. Michigan: Purple Out at Husky Stadium set for College Football Playoff National Championship Game rematch
Last season, the Huskies hosted a Purple Out against Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks. And given that Washington beat Oregon twice last year (both in the regular season matchup, which was the Purple Out and then again later in the last ever Pac-12 Championship Game), it’s worth doing a Purple Out for this game as well.
This is a much anticipated game, even without the emphasis of wearing purple being placed here. Even if you were to take the most recent meeting between these two teams away for a second, let’s examine this in a vacuum for a moment, shall we?
It’s a noteworthy Big Ten showdown between two prominent programs that have thrived at various periods of time historically. Between these two teams, there are 43 bowl victories and 1,778 total wins. Michigan has seen more success, but these are both programs that have a lot to be proud of.
Add in the context of the move into the Big Ten with conference realignment and then the most recent national title game and there’s a lot of fun that could be had with storylines here.
Of course, it’s certainly plausible that both of these teams take steps back this season, but still, it’s a game worth looking forward to.
And be sure to wear some purple and get there early. The first 50,000 folks in Husky Stadium will get some pom poms to wave around as the Huskies take on the Wolverines.
