We’ve gotten through one half and the Washington Huskies, despite a missed field goal, a blocked field goal, and some silly penalties, are leading the defending national champs in Seattle. Jedd Fisch and the Huskies are currently holding on to a 14-10 lead after the first couple of quarters against the Michigan Wolverines.

And unfortunately, it feels like Washington should probably be up considerably more than what it is right now. Will Rogers and the offense has been electric, especially through the air. The defense has held up relatively well. And yet, Washington only leads by four points.

That’s a problem.

I’ve got some thoughts. You’ve got some thoughts. Let’s talk about a few of them, shall we?

Will Rogers and Washington’s passing attack look incredible so far

I love what Will Rogers and this Washington Husky offense are doing right now. It really feels like the Huskies have learned to trust their starting quarterback and he’s rewarding that faith with a strong showing against a solid defense.

Rogers has completed 13 of 20 attempts for 189 yards and a couple touchdowns. He’s done well in connecting with Denzel Boston and Giles Jackson, who both have touchdowns so far in this game. Boston has five catches for 80 yards and a touchdown while Jackson has two catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.

That’s pretty solid.

Michigan’s ground game has mattered a lot, but the Wolverines change at quarterback has been frustrating to watch

The Michigan Wolverines aren’t exactly known for having a great offense this season and while it seemed like they were going to go all in on their rushing attack, Sherrone Moore made the choice to switch up things at quarterback and the Wolverines have responded by scoring 10 unanswered points.

That’s, just, you know. Great. The Huskies haven’t figured out how to account for Jack Tuttle and he’s been able to provide a bit of an offensive spark. Hopefully that doesn’t continue to be an issue for Washington in the second half.

Why on earth did it seem like Washington settled for a field goal attempt at the end of the half?

The Washington Huskies had some timeouts to use on that final drive in the first half. Will Rogers and the passing attack were clicking well. They were moving the ball effectively. It looked like Washington was going to be in position to get some more points before the half to go up against a really impressive Michigan team.

And yet, Fisch didn’t take a time out when he had an opportunity to do so, the clock kept going, and Washington was forced to take a field goal attempt with just a handful of seconds left on the clock. That field goal was blocked.
