Washington Huskies vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles: 3 Huskies that stood out in win
By Mark Knight
No. 3: Giles Jackson
I really debated having Will Rogers in this spot and he is certainly deserving especially with his impressive 199 QBR from this game. He completed almost all of his passes with a whopping 21-26 and he is responsible for 4 touchdowns to three receivers. So, this isn't a slight against him, he would be 3b if there was such a position.
I think it should go to Giles Jackson because he bailed out the offense in a major way on 4th and 1 on that first TD drive of the day for the Huskies. It was a gutsy call but he made a smooth catch and scampered for 29 yards to get the momentum going for the Huskies.
If Memmelaar can be a player of the game for his leadership, we need Jackson in there for saving the drive and swinging the momentum with that big 4th down play. It was his longest catch of the day, and the most important one, he ended the day with 6 receptions for 66 yards.
While we are on the subject of Memmelaar and Jackson, it was actually a hold called on Memmelaar that negated Jackson's touchdown. Which is not ideal, but as a spectator, it was ticky-tack and in my opinion should have been a no whistle situation.
If you think that every time Jackson touched the ball he moved the chains for the Huskies, you aren't far off, he basically did, creating a first down on 5 of his 6 catches. He was basically an automatic conversion machine and it's no wonder why Jedd Fisch likes to get the ball in his hands.
