Washington Huskies to celebrate ‘Superhero Day’ during first Big Ten conference home game

A lot has changed from last season to this season for the Washington Huskies, but they're still going to be celebrating Superhero Day in Husky Stadium this year. And that's fun to see.

With the start of a new era of Washington Husky football, a lot has changed from last year to this season. Jedd Fisch is now the head coach in Seattle, Will Rogers has taken over as the quarterback for the Huskies, and there have been several other new faces who have come to Montlake. But, one thing that is being carried over from last season to this one is the Superhero Day game theme.

As the University of Washington athletics department announced in a press release back in April, the Huskies will “pay tribute to the true superheroes of Seattle.” And by that, the Huskies mean they’re celebrating the hard work from the folks who help keep the city of Seattle moving along and thriving.

Who does that include? Well, according to the press release, that’s “first responders and teachers, to healthcare workers, city infrastructure workers and so many more.”

So, quite a few people. And people that are pretty important.

Superhero Day returns when Washington Huskies host Northwestern Wildcats on September 21, 2024

The title for the theme is a little silly, to be completely honest, but it’s cool to see the Huskies continue to find great ways to honor local folks who do a lot for Seattle and often go unnoticed. Along with that, the Huskies will have a pretty big moment happening on the field as they play their first ever home game against a Big Ten opponent.

So, that whole “ushering in a new era of Washington Husky football” deal that we’ve been chatting about? That goes up a notch on September 21 when the Huskies bring the Northwestern Wildcats to Montlake (which means we’re going to see a lot of purple around town and in The Greatest Setting in College Football).

It’s been interesting to see the different promotions that the Huskies are putting on this season and it’s actually a lot of fun to see the Huskies celebrate folks who make daily sacrifices and work a variety of types of challenging jobs to keep Seattle moving along.
