The first quarter was quiet and frustrating and quite frustrating. But, nonetheless, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies were able to dominate the Eastern Michigan Eagles and remain unbeaten thanks to a 30-9 victory Saturday afternoon.

Things could have been much, much worse for Washington and at one point it seemed like things were going to go sideways for the Huskies in Fisch’s second ever game in Husky Stadium. Thankfully, after a sluggish start for the offense, UW got rolling on that side of the ball (in large part thanks to Will Rogers, who became very, very effective very, very quickly.

Washington managed to showcase a bit of offensive firepower as the Huskies racked up 501 total yards of offense. Rogers’ throwing arm accounted for a bit over half of that as he threw for 261 yards all while completing 21 of his 26 pass attempts.

Combine that with the four touchdown passes that he threw and it’s a pretty decent performance in Rogers’ second start for the Huskies.

Washington Huskies wake up and overcome slow start against Eastern Michigan Eagles

Rogers wasn’t the only bright spot for the Huskies. Jonah Coleman had another strong showing as he ran for 104 yards off of just 11 carries (which is good for 9.5 yards per carry) on Saturday afternoon. And on the defensive side of things, the Huskies got after EMU on the line of scrimmage and caused seven sacks.

Denzel Boston proved to be a reliable receiver when Rogers needed him in big moments as he caught three passes for 32 yards for two touchdowns. Elsewhere in the receiving corps, Jeremiah Hunter showed up and caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Giles Jackson managed to haul in a half dozen passes for 66 receiving yards.

So, the passing attack was efficient. It took a little while to get rolling, which is slightly concerning, and it would’ve been nice to see more immediate, early results from the Huskies’ rushing attack. Still, the Huskies won. They overcame those early game issues and managed to take advantage of Eastern Michigan’s mistakes. And 21-point wins are generally a good thing to celebrate.
