Washington Huskies star wide receiver Denzel Boston thrived in road loss vs. Rutgers
By Ethan Lee
Last Friday in Piscataway, New Jersey, the Washington Huskies had a hard time getting a rhythm established on offense until they absolutely had a rhythm established on offense. Denzel Boston was a key reason for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies finding a way to make things close on the road against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Boston, on more than one occasion late in the game against the Scarlet Knights, came up as a reliable target for Huskies quarterback Will Rogers. In total, Boston snagged six receptions and led all receivers with 125 yards and two touchdowns.
He was huge in this game. It can’t be stated enough the sort of impact that Boston, a sophomore wide receiver from South Hill, Washington, had on this game.
Early in the third quarter, Boston made his presence known as he hauled in a monumental 51-yard touchdown pass from Rogers. That helped create a bit of momentum for the Huskies that they had been lacking in the game up until that point.

As Washington attempted a late comeback, Boston snagged a 29-yard reception on 4th-and-1, allowing the Huskies to continue driving down the field. And later, with just 1:40 left on the game clock, Boston grabbed a 12-yard touchdown pass which allowed the Huskies to cap a 76-yard drive and to cut their deficit to just three points.
The Huskies have a star wide receiver in Boston and it’s fascinating to see him connect with Rogers in huge moments.
While Boston isn’t the only dynamic receiving threat on this team (Decker DeGraaf, Jeremiah Hunter, Giles Jackson, and Keleki Latu are among those who have all also proven to be more than proficient in this area), it seems plausible that Boston can step up and be a key leader on offense for a team that needs to find a way to get some wins down the stretch.
So far this season, Boston leads the Huskies in receiving yards with 412 and with receiving touchdowns with seven. Jackson is second in receiving yards on this team with 401. But when it comes to touchdowns, there’s a huge gap. The next highest total of touchdown receptions is just two and that’s held by DeGraaf.
It’s more than evident that Boston plays a key role on this team and that was more than clear this past Friday. Here’s to hoping that we’ll see Boston haul in more touchdown passes throughout the season and here’s to hoping that those catches correspond with some exciting wins.
