Washington Huskies QB Will Rogers was huge for UW in 10-point win vs. Michigan
By Ethan Lee
The Washington Huskies needed a strong performance from the veteran quarterback they plucked out of the transfer portal and that’s exactly what they got. In a rematch of last season’s national title game, Will Rogers helped elevate the ceiling of what the Washington Huskies could accomplish as they hosted the Michigan Wolverines.
The former Mississippi State Bulldog demonstrated his potential. While he wasn’t perfect, Rogers was efficient and was able to pick apart Michigan’s secondary. That was especially true as the Huskies got into a rhythm and tested the Wolverines with quick passing routes.
In total, Rogers completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for a total of 271 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing his first interception of the season.
But despite that pick, Rogers did a lot to put the Huskies in position to win against the Wolverines. He was impressive in so many ways and, for the most part, he didn’t try to do too much. He took what was available and helped the Huskies keep moving down the field.

For all the questions about how Rogers would play in a system other than the Air Raid, I think he pretty much answered most of them in this game. He faced a tough defensive front that was, on multiple occasions, able to get pressure on him, but he still didn’t make many mistakes as some thought he might.
Early on in the game, Rogers connected with Denzel Boston for an impressive 36-yard gain and then later on that drive, placed a pass perfectly to where Boston was the only one able to catch it, putting UW up 7-0 in the first quarter.
UW’s starting quarterback managed to go 6-of-10 passing in the first quarter for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Later in the second quarter, Rogers connected with Giles Jackson, who had to be thrilled to have the chance to perform at a high level against his previous team. And Jackson hauled in a 16-yard reception for a touchdown, thus UW went up 14-0.
In the second quarter, Rogers was 7-of-10 passing for another 92 yards and another touchdown. Oh, and he managed to go 8-for-11 for 85 yards in a second half that was centered around running the ball and changing things up a bit.
Rogers wasn’t perfect in the second half, but he didn’t have to be. Thankfully, there were teammates around him in the third and fourth quarters who helped the Huskies come away with an impressive win. But, it’s still worth noting that Washington likely doesn’t win this game if Rogers doesn’t get off to that impressive first half showing.
He was really impressive and that should be celebrated. The Huskies got a huge win here and Rogers proved he can do well in this sort of system.
