‘His own legacy’: Jedd Fisch highlights Carson Bruener impact on Washington Huskies football

While many might know him as the son of a Washington Huskies football legend, Jedd Fisch is grateful for the way Carson Bruener has helped establish a sense of connection and continuity with all the changes the Washington football program has seen recently

As Jedd Fisch continues to guide the Washington Huskies football program into a new era and a new conference, he’s working on revamping a Huskies team that saw a ton of turnover from last year’s stellar roster. But, there are a few valuable, experienced Washington football players who stuck around Montlake to help Fisch continue to build this proud program.

Enter Carson Bruener, who has worked to pave his own path for a college football program that his father helped achieve greatness over three decades ago.

One of the greatest things about college football is the emphasis on tradition and legacy. And, at the 2024 Big Ten Media Days, Fisch’s comments about the seasoned linebacker brought up the importance of tradition and legacy for the Huskies.

Still, they also highlighted a great player who has been successful in helping this program on his own.

“Carson has established his own legacy,” Fisch said. “Although he's a legacy player, where his dad was a 14-year NFL veteran, one of the greatest Washington Huskies that we've had, Mark Bruener.”

Washington football fans are likely to look back fondly on Mark Bruener’s time with the Huskies. But, given all that Carson has been a part of for this team, there’s no doubt that Washington Husky fans are also thrilled to have him in Seattle.

Jedd Fisch notes how Carson Bruener has built his own Washington football legacy

Carson Bruener has done well during his career and he was a key reason the Huskies had success a season ago. In the 39 games that he’s played for Washington up to this point, the Huskies’ linebacker has tallied 202 total tackles and picked off a couple passes.

Oh, and Fisch credits Bruener for helping the Huskies move forward after Kalen DeBoer left Montlake for Tuscaloosa and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

“Carson's done an incredible job since I've gotten here making sure that our program and what Washington football has been about for years meshes together,” Fisch explained.

Continuity isn’t something that is incredibly common with this Washington football program right now given all that has changed in a very short time. But, as Fisch notes, having a seasoned player like Bruener around can certainly help establish a standard and connect the Huskies together. It’s a big deal that Fisch has Bruener.
