After a frustrating road loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies are finding themselves stuck right in the midst of a crowded Big Ten middle class. It’s still early in the season, but the Big Ten standings feature an incredibly competitive middle of the pack.

And following that Big Ten road loss vs. the Scarlet Knights, the Huskies are currently 1-1 in conference play (and 3-2 overall on the season). So, where does that place the Washington Husky football team?

After five weeks of football, the Big Ten is living up to its reputation as being a conference with plenty of competition. Six teams remain unbeaten at the top of the league while Washington is part of a group of five teams who have 1-1 records.

At the moment, Washington is caught up in a logjam right alongside the Michigan State Spartans, USC Trojans, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Illinois Fighting Illini.

That’s a bit of a logjam.

Big Ten standings, week 5: Washington Huskies caught up in logjam with 1-1 Big Ten record

Here’s what the Big Ten Standings currently look like:

  • Indiana Hoosiers (2-0)
  • Michigan Wolverines (2-0)
  • Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)
  • Oregon Ducks (1-0)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0)
  • Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0)
  • Illinois Fighting Illini (1-1)
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-1)
  • USC Trojans (1-1)
  • Michigan State Spartans (1-1)
  • Washington Huskies (1-1)
  • Northwestern Wildcats (0-1)
  • Wisconsin Badgers (0-1)
  • Purdue Boilermakers (0-1)
  • Maryland Terrapins (0-2)
  • Minnesota Golden Gophers (0-2)
  • UCLA Bruins (0-2)

There’s a ton of congestion there in the middle of the conference, but that’s partially because it’s still so early in the season. Washington will have a chance to get a bit of respect and cause a little bit of chaos within the conference standings as the Huskies host the Michigan Wolverines in Seattle this weekend.

I’m sure the Indiana Hoosiers, who have definitely overachieved this season, would appreciate it if the Wolverines lost in Husky Stadium on Saturday.
