Washington football fans furious with disastrous 1st half vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
By Ethan Lee
The Washington Huskies aren’t having much fun on the road in the Big Ten. The first Big Ten road game in Washington Husky football history is off to a disastrous start as Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies are trailing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 14-3 at halftime.
The Huskies, who were off to a solid 3-1 start to the season, have looked out of sync after a decent first quarter and they’re absolutely struggling on both sides of the ball right now.
On the offensive side of things, Will Rogers has been decent at quarterback, but he and the Huskies haven’t been able to sustain drives or get enough explosive plays to get points on the scoreboard consistently. Rogers has completed nine of his 12 pass attempts for just 78 yards and it doesn’t seem to help that Fisch and UW offensive coordinator are regularly swapping Rogers for Demond Williams at quarterback.
The offense just can’t find much of a rhythm to keep moving right now. And that’s a problem. Grady Gross did nail a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter of the game, but he missed on a longer field goal attempt and the Huskies can’t convert on third down.
On the ground, Jonah Coleman has picked up 80 yards on 10 carries, but the Huskies haven’t committed to running the ball with him.
And on top of everything else, penalties continue to be a problem for Washington. Penalties and odd coaching decisions have stalled drives. And that’s a huge reason why UW is trailing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 14-3.
Of course, Washington Husky fans aren’t thrilled right now.
Washington Husky fans upset with awful 1st half start against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Given the score, it’s hard to blame folks for being upset. This game has been rough to watch and Washington Husky fans are right to be mad with this sort of situation.
The Huskies really need to find a way to get back into this one in the second half, but if Washington continues to struggle with penalties like in the first half, it’ll be hard to really accomplish much in this game.
Fisch and his coaching staff are going to get a ton of critiques over the way this game is playing out. Washington Husky fans saw greatness a season ago and they expected at least decent football to be played this season. Even with all that’s changed across the roster and coaching staff, that shouldn’t be too high of a bar set for this team and group of coaches.
Can Washington get back into this game? Or will we just see even more angry Washington Husky fans by the time this one wraps up?
