In a rematch showdown against the Michigan Wolverines, it sure would be nice to see the Washington Huskies get a bit of revenge. But, right now, it seems like that opportunity at revenge might not be feasible. Or at least there’s not a great chance of it if you ask some of the math magic computer analytics calculations going on at ESPN.

Right now, before the Washington Huskies have even managed to play one game, the Wolverines are notable favorites according to ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor for the midseason clash between last season’s national title game participants.

While it’s worth keeping in mind how this projection is coming before Washington has played a single game this season, it’s also worth noting that it’s still a frustrating thing to see. It would really be nice to be able to write about the Huskies being favored over Michigan prior to Washington having even played a down of football so far this season.

But that’s not how this is shaking out.

Washington Huskies football: Early ESPN analytics matchup prediction favores Michigan Wolverines in national championship rematch

Right now, before Washington gets a chance to meet up with Weber State in the Huskies’ season opener, ESPN's Matchup Predictor has given the Huskies a 39.9 percent chance of beating the Michigan Wolverines in October.

That’s only a little annoying.

I mean, it kinda makes some sense in some ways to think about how Michigan really managed to beat the Huskies in convincing fashion back in January. It was frustrating, but it was clear that Michigan was better on that particular day.

Things might change a bit depending on how things play out down the stretch of the season. With each of these teams playing in games between now and October, the numbers in ESPN’s Football Power Index will change and this matchup predictor will change as well.
