How worried should we be about the Washington Huskies tight end problem?

The Huskies are dangerously short at TE and the status of Quentin Moore is uncertain.

The Huskies started the season without a lot of tight ends on the roster, only seven. That's not a lot of depth for a position group that will often see two of them on the field at the same time. Some packages even asking for much more than that.

It gets thinner when you consider that three are currently injured with freshman Charlie Crowell out for the entire season.

Fisch mentioned in his press conference today that Ryan Otton is probably still three weeks away from being able to play. Quentin Moore is the final injured Husky, who was injured in the Weber State game.

If Moore is out for at least two weeks like being reported that leaves simply four TEs on the roster. Four.

That's desperately thin for a position that often has a dozen players on a given college team. It gets worse when you consider there are two players that are both listed as Juniors that have never played a snap of college football; Wilson Schwartz and Owen Coutts.

Washington Huskies facing notable tight end depth issue after Quentin Moore's injury to start season vs. Weber State

Two have seen playing time in college, one is a true freshman who secured a touchdown in the opening contest against Weber State, Decker DeGraaf.

The other is Senior Nevada transfer, Keleki Latu. There will be a lot of pressure and a lot of snaps on those two and I'm sure the training staff and us Husky fans are praying there isn't another injury to TE, as there's nothing left beyond without someone changing positions.

The silver lining is that we are going to get to see a lot of DeGraaf who has impressed the coaching staff in the Spring and the fanbase in game one. It's a lot to ask of a true freshman but he has so far shown that he is up for the assignment and the elevated role.

Could he be the next great TE that UW produces?

That's the hope. He has 2-3 weeks before reinforcements arrive to show off and make his name in the purple and gold.
