It was the first game of the season and that often gets us excited to see breakout stars that we didn't expect, say Jayden Wayne who tore it up towards the end. However, we also are left wondering about some of the ghosts, players we expected to show up big but didn't show up at all.

The one that stood out the most, Jeremiah Hunter, a Senior receiver in a wide receiver room full of underclassmen. A receiver who has over 2,000 collegiate yards at Cal, a player who led that Golden Bear team in 703 receiving yards in his junior season. He totaled in the first game, 0 receptions with 0 yards.

Which gives him the title of Ghost of the game.

Washington Huskies vs. Weber State: Why didn't Jeremiah Hunter have a catch in 2024 season opener?

Before you start to think that maybe he was injured or he didn't play, we can dispel that quickly as he had 1 single target and he played off and on throughout the game. He was also listed as the starter in the 2-deep depth chart earlier in the week alongside Denzel Boston and Giles Jackson.

So what happened?

This will be something we need to keep an eye on as it wasn't mentioned in the press conference afterwards. My bet is that the game script just didn't work to his favor. It ended up being a heavy run game because of how explosive Jonah Coleman was and even Fisch said after how he thought Boston would have more receptions than he did. Therefore, the game script is a big indicator of why Hunter was the ghost of the game.

The other thing that could be a reality is that Will Rogers and Hunter may not have the chemistry yet. Hunter's lone target came with Williams at QB. Rogers was feeding both Boston and Jackson which didn't leave much for his third receiver.

Maybe game script or maybe chemistry in the first game or maybe both. It is something that I will be watching as next week, I hope to write about a different ghost and Hunter gets plenty of love.
