Apple Cup week is here, folks. Yes, I know it's week three and I know that the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars aren't in the same conference anymore. College football is weird these days. But one seemingly unending constant that will never go away is arguing about picks and predictions made on ESPN's College GameDay.

The pregame show has become a college football fan staple and even if fans don't love the changes that have been made to the show over the years, there's still going to be plenty of chatter about which host (or guest picker) chose your favorite team to win or lose.

And this week, the crew leaned in UW's favor, but they were split a bit on who would win between the Huskies and Cougars in the 2024 edition of the Apple Cup.

Here's what the picks looked like ahead of the week three neutral site rivalry matchup between the Huskies and the Cougars.

Desmond Howard started things off by picking the Huskies to come out on top. Nick Saban, the legendary Alabama head coach, chose Washington State. The Huskies ended up getting three consecutive picks as Pat McAfee, Dawn Staley, and Lee Corso all chose Washington to come out on top of this contest. And then Kirk Herbstreit closed things out by picking Wazzu.

So, that's four picks for the Huskies and then two for the Cougars. As the lower third graphic notes, 78 percent of ESPN's fan vote decided to go with the Huskies in this one.

With regards to everyone involved in the picking process on GameDay, I tend to put the most stock in Saban's picks given just how good of a head coach he was. That said, let's ignore his choice and hope he's wrong.

How does that sound for everyone?

We'll see how this actually plays out. It's possible that Wazzu's inconsistent defense shows up in this game the way they did when they allowed 30 points to Portland State. All I'm hoping for is that WSU's offense isn't clicking the way it has in the first two weeks. Steve Belichick's defense will have its hands full today.
