There’s no real question about who should come out on top of the first game of the 2024 Washington Huskies football season.

On Saturday, August 31 at 8 p.m., the Washington Huskies (now led by Jedd Fisch and featuring a ton of new names on the roster and coaching staff) will face the Weber State Wildcats (who are an FCS team). Even though there’s been a monumental amount of turnover from last season’s national championship runner up team, the gulf of talent that exists here is noteworthy.

So, it shouldn’t shock anyone that Washington is predicted to win here.

As the Huskies kick off the 2024 season (which also happens to be their first year in the Big Ten) against the Weber State Wildcats, ESPN Analytics’ Matchup Predictor (which is also connected to their Football Power Index) gives the Huskies a great chance of starting the season at 1-0.

Washington Huskies given phenomenal chance of beating Weber State to start 2024 college football season

When examining the magical mathematical statistical analysis machines that ESPN provides to the general public, the Huskies are given a really solid 91.1 percent chance of getting Jedd Fisch his first victory as the head coach in Seattle when they meet up with the Wildcats.

Yeah, there are significant changes that took place that we can talk about with regards to the Washington Huskies football team, but the changes on the coaching staff and the roster turnover don’t outweigh the talent level that Washington has.

Because, when you look at what Fisch brought to the table in Seattle, he assembled a strong roster. On top of that, Fisch is a great coach and he proved at Arizona that he can accomplish a rebuild in a hurry. The man knows how to recruit and how to overhaul a roster.

There are still questions about this Washington Huskies team that should be asked, but this game shouldn’t be one that is an issue. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
