Okay, look, it’s a bit early to be talking about what will happen for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies in week two. That said, we’re going to talk a little bit about that. Because, well, ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor has some numbers for us and we should chat about them.

It’s early, very early, but according to ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor, the Huskies have a very good chance of winning in week two. That shouldn’t shock a soul out there, the Huskies are a much better program than the Eastern Michigan Eagles, but it’s a pretty striking number.

In week two of the 2024 Washington Huskies football schedule, on September 7 in Husky Stadium, the Eastern Michigan Eagles will get to take on Washington for the first time ever. And in that brief bit of history that is going to be made, Washington has a 92.4 percent chance of beating the Eagles.

That’s a good thing for Washington! It’s a less-than-ideal thing for Eastern Michigan. But, well, that’s their problem and not ours.

Ahead of week 1, ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor heavily favors Washington vs. Eastern Michigan

Again, it is worth noting that this is still early and those numbers are dynamic. They’re fluid. As things change with ESPN’s Football Power Index and various other stats and numbers, we’ll see some possible changes to those percentages.

But, it’s encouraging to see that, even ahead of the Huskies’ home opener (and season opener and first game as a Big Ten team and Jedd Fisch’s first game leading the Huskies) against Weber State in week one, Washington is favored by a considerable percentage here. That’s encouraging.

It largely has to do with the perceived talent gap that exists between these two teams. Washington is a more prominent program, has a more talented roster, and (on paper) looks better than Eastern Michigan. We’ll see how things shape up between now and then.
