No. 4: Washington Huskies vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (week 5)

Okay it is absolutely weird to think about how the Washington Huskies might have a better chance of beating the Michigan Wolverines than they do of beating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, but that’s the world we’re living in right now.

And it’s worth noting that Washington isn’t technically favored in this game, if you ask ESPN’s FPI and the matchup predictor tool. That’s because this game is pretty much a coin-flip sort of contest (just like the week six matchup against Michigan) as FPI and the matchup predictor are giving the Huskies a 49.7 percent chance of beating the Scarlet Knights in week five.

This will be the first true road test in Big Ten play for Fisch and the Huskies, but it will also be an opportunity to prove that the Huskies are a capable program as it gives UW a chance for a road conference win in a winnable game. While Rutgers is better than what it’s been in years past, it’s far from being a blue blood in the Big Ten.

If Fisch and the Huskies can get a win this weekend, and then turn around and follow that up with a win over Rutgers in week five, they’ll be building some decent momentum in Big Ten play. And that will certainly help the Huskies (and their fans) move on from that frustrating loss in the Apple Cup.
