No. 2: Steve Belichick’s defense is going to be fun to watch all season

We’re just two weeks into the 2024 Washington Huskies football schedule, but the Huskies have done a great job of stonewalling folks and keeping opponents out of the end zone through two games.

In addition to the fact that having a strong defensive performance is going to be valuable for the Huskies this coming week, it also makes life easier for an offense that is still coming together. While the offense has struggled in the first quarter in both of the games they’ve played in so far, Steve Belichick’s defense is on fire right now.

Against the likes of Eastern Michigan, the Huskies recorded seven sacks and they were impressive up front. Tangentially connected there, Washington held Eastern Michigan to a grand total of 75 rushing yards allowed on 37 attempts. Yes, there’s a gulf of a talent differential between the two programs, but I, for one, am all in on watching a Washington defense routinely shut opposing offenses down.

Now, back to this coming week for a second. The Huskies are getting to face off against the Washington State Cougars in the Apple Cup. Wazzu’s defense hasn’t been as impressive as Belichick’s, but their offense has been electric. That’s a matchup that will be fun to watch, especially if Belichick is able to keep the Cougars out of the end zone.
