College football is underway and the Big Ten era of Washington Huskies football is officially here in every meaningful way. Things are busy across the Big Ten for just about everybody and there are plenty of games for you to watch if you’d like, but there are some that I really think are worth paying attention to.
So let’s start looking at those games, shall we?
But they’re going to require you to get up in the morning. Because we’re focusing on games across numerous different time zones. Shoutout to the new landscape of college football that puts an emphasis on teams playing for and existing in conferences that span the entirety of the continental United States.
Eh, it’s still college football. Here are three games involving Big Ten teams that I think you should pay attention to this weekend.
Penn State vs. West Virginia
All the way on the other side of the country with their own beautiful mountainous landscape and gorgeous forests exist Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers. And this weekend, they get to host the Penn State Nittany Lions in a regional rivalry game.
I’m all in on this contest because, well, it could introduce a little bit of early season chaos that I would very much so be here for.
West Virginia was pretty good last season, better than many expected, and Neal Brown got to cool off the hot seat considerably. They get a little rowdy in Morgantown, West Virginia and they'll certainly be ready for an intense game with Penn State.
UCLA vs. Hawaii
Speaking of some early season chaos, there’s certainly a path to an upset here all the way out west as the UCLA Bruins are traveling to meet up with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. This could be a high scoring affair, or it could be utter chaos within the game in and of itself.
I really don’t know what to expect here, but I’m often VERY intrigued any time a team decides to travel to Hawaii. Given all that has changed for the Bruins, I think this one could be fun to keep up with.
Washington vs Weber State
Okay, well, this game isn’t probably going to be all that interesting, but it’ll be interesting to see what the Washington Huskies look like. And also this is a Washington Huskies blog. We bleed purple (metaphorically, not literally, if your blood is purple, please get that examined by a medical professional) around here.
This game is going to give everyone a good look at what Jedd Fisch and his coaching staff have brought to Seattle. Will Rogers is taking over on offense and there are a ton of new faces stepping up all over this roster. I’m intrigued.
