The Big Ten era of Washington Huskies college football is upon us, folks. The Washington Huskies are getting set to follow up a thrilling 2023 college football season that saw them make it all the way to the national championship game with a season that is full of change.

As the Huskies get set to meet the Weber State Wildcats for the first time, a new era of Washington Huskies football is getting started. This first game of the 2024 Washington Huskies football season is the start to a new era.

Jedd Fisch, now the head coach in Seattle, gets to lead Washington into the Big Ten. And that’ll be fun to see. Here’s what you need to know about the game as we get started on the 2024 Washington Huskies football schedule.

Washington Huskies vs. Weber State game details

  • Who: Washington Huskies vs. Weber State Wildcats
  • What: Season opener (Game 1)
  • When: August 31, 2024
  • Where: Alaska Airlines field at Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington

There are plenty of questions to ponder as the Huskies move on from the likes of Kalen DeBoer (who left for the Alabama Crimson Tide after Nick Saban retired), the Pac-12 (which became a dysfunctional mess that Washington left for the Big Ten), Michael Penix Jr. (who is off to the NFL), Rome Odunze (also off to the NFL) and so many more.

And with the Huskies’ 2024 season, we’ll hopefully see some things that are intriguing and give hope about the future (which will hopefully have some sort of stability). 

Weber State is a non-conference foe (and this is the first time the Huskies have met up with the FCS program), but this will still be the first game that we get to see the Washington Huskies wear a Big Ten logo on their uniforms. And maybe we’ll get some answers to the questions that come from all of the change Washington has gone through.
