Week three of the 2024 Washington Huskies season will reunite the Huskies with a familiar face. Though it’s unlikely that Washington will be welcomed warmly when the Huskies meet up with their in-state rival, the Washington State Cougars.

The Apple Cup will live on as this longstanding, traditional rivalry matchup of Evergreen State powerhouses continues, even following the way the Huskies left the Pac-12 for greener pastures in the Big Ten and left Washington State behind.

No hard feelings, right? Eh, that’s unlikely. There’s no way Washington State will be happy to meet up with the Huskies this season. Not that they’re ever really thrilled for this contest, it’s a rivalry game. Hard feelings tend to go back a few generations here.

Washington Huskies vs. Washington State Cougars: 2024 Apple Cup Game Details

  • Who: Washington Huskies vs. Washington State Cougars
  • What: Apple Cup (also the third game of the 2024 Washington Huskies season)
  • When: September 14, 2024
  • Where: Lumen Field, Seattle, Washington

It’s good for the sport that decision makers were able to keep this rivalry alive. The Apple Cup is one of college football's most storied rivalries and it’s a very heated one. That said, it’s also pretty lopsided in Washington’s favor.

Heading into the 2024 edition of this rivalry, Washington happens to hold a dominant advantage here, leading in the all time series with a total of 76 wins while Washington State has just 33. Interestingly enough, the two teams have tied on a half dozen occasions.

But, even though it’s relatively one sided, the Apple Cup has produced plenty of great memories and it’s cool to see this series survive the latest round of conference realignment.

This season, the Apple Cup will be in Seattle, but it’s not going to be happening on Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. Instead, Lumen Field (the home of the Seattle Seahawks) gets to play host venue for this rivalry meeting.
