The Jedd Fisch era of Washington Huskies football gets underway this evening. As the Washington Huskies start things up in the Big Ten, they’ll host the Weber State Wildcats for their first game of their year.

The Huskies are coming off a national championship game appearance, but this is functionally a brand new roster. 41 players from last season’s Washington Huskies football roster are gone and Fisch and his new coaching staff brought 59 new faces to play on Montlake since last season ended.

So, Weber State will be looking to cause a little chaos as this Huskies team (which is functionally brand new in many ways) is still getting used to working together. There’s a sizable talent gap between the two programs and Washington should be able to win with ease, but there are still a few Wildcats worth keeping a close eye on.

Here are three opposing players Washington Husky fans need to know about:

Washington Huskies vs. Weber State Wildcats: 3 opposing players to know

Let’s start on the defensive side of the ball.

Brayden Wilson - Defensive end

Brayden Wilson might just be Weber State's most decorated returning player and he’ll be someone to watch as Washington’s offensive line continues to gel together. In 2023, Wilson managed to rack up 7.5 sacks and had a total of 16.5 tackles for loss. At 6-5 and 255 pounds, he’s a formidable force that Washington will need to account for.

Richie Muñoz - Quarterback

On the offensive side of things, Richie Muñoz had an intriguing season in 2023. The Wildcats weren’t spectacular, but Muñoz provided a late season spark for Weber State’s offense and he helped the Wildcats get three consecutive wins to end the season. Muñoz has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 1054 yards and 10 touchdowns against just one interception. He just doesn’t make many mistakes.

Damon Bankston - Running Back

Bakston didn’t get to play all that he should have in 2023 due to some injury issues, but his potential to have an impact for the Wildcats can’t get overlooked. During the five games he got to play in last season, Bankston ran for 388 yards and scored five touchdowns. That’s pretty good, but what was impressive is how Bankston averaged an impressive 6.2 yards per carry.

The Huskies should be able to easily take care of this team. There’s a ton of talents and the Huskies are very heavy favorites, but it will still be interesting to see how these three Weber State Wildcats perform in Husky Stadium this evening.
