2024 Big Ten football schedule, week 1: What games are on today?

Life in the Big Ten begins this week, folks. The Washington Huskies are preparing for their season opener against the Weber State Wildcats and the Big Ten Conference is busy across the country getting its first week of play underway.

Technically speaking, a few Big Ten games have already happened. Starting back on Thursday, there were three games being played. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights got the first win, beating Howard 44-7. The Minnesota Golden Gophers also played on Thursday, but they lost 19-17 to North Carolina. MEanwhile, the Illinois Fighting Illini managed to beat Eastern Illinois 45-0.

Friday night, at the time of writing this, Florida Atlantic is visiting Michigan State while Western Michigan is facing off against Wisconsin in Camp Randall.

But things really get busy for the Big Ten on Saturday. Let’s go over everything that’s happening in week 1 (on Saturday) for the Washington Huskies and their new conference mates. Here’s the 2024 week 1 schedule for the Big Ten.

The Penn State Nittany Lions will head to Morgantown, West Virginia for a rather intriguing matchup with the West Virginia Mountaineers. That’s a game worth keeping an eye on, regardless of who you root for. Meanwhile, over in Columbus, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be hosting Akron. That’s going to be a blowout.

As is the game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Fresno State Bulldogs in the Big House. Expect that to get lopsided in a hurry. The Nebraska Cornhuskers will be bringing the UTEP Miners to town while Northwestern faces Miami (Ohio).

The Oregon Ducks will face the Idaho Vandals (in what will certainly be a lopsided affair in Oregon’s favor) and UCLA is traveling to Hawaii for a game way out west (there’s no way that could spell trouble for the Bruins).

Oh, and then we also get a late-night game for the Washington Huskies as they face the Weber State Wildcats. But chances are you probably already knew that. 

On Sunday, the USC Trojans will be meeting up with the LSU Tigers in a Las Vegas neutral site game. It’s weird to see college football on a Sunday, but hey, we’ve got a holiday weekend, so they can make such a thing happen, I suppose.
