Oregon football fans react after Ducks pluck 4-star tight end away from Washington Huskies
By Ethan Lee
The Washington Huskies and Oregon Ducks won’t face each other for a few more weeks, but that doesn’t mean this rivalry won’t be discussed at any point between now and when they ultimately meet up.
There’s just generally a lot of bad blood between the two programs and there’s going to be a little more as Oregon just picked up a commitment from a 4-star tight end that was previously committed to play for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies.
Vander Ploog won’t be playing in Seattle. Instead of arriving on Montlake, he’ll be going to Autzen Stadium to play for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

It shouldn't shock you to learn that Oregon fans are going to be gloating about this one for a bit. And that kinda sucks. Here’s what some Oregon Ducks fans had to say about the whole deal with the Ducks landing Ploog over Washington:
STAR WARS:
I’m here for the Star Wars jokes. I can get on board with that.
We’re just a few weeks away from the matchup with the Oregon Ducks and it feels like they’ve already found a way to score first. And that kinda sucks, to be completely honest. I don’t love that for the Huskies.
I also don’t love that Jedd Fisch will be taking the Huskies to Eugene. Washington has been abysmal when playing in road games this season and the Oregon Ducks happen to be pretty dang great. They could conceivably be the best team in the country this season. And I’d much rather see UW try to face off against that sort of juggernaut in a rivalry game back in Husky Stadium.
Because at least then it would feel like Washington would have something of a chance of challenging the Ducks. Who knows, maybe we’ll see an unlikely road upset? Rivalry games can certainly get weird at times and Washington is due for something good to happen on the road this season.
Also, it’s worth noting that Washington is in a complete rebuild right now. This is a down year. That doesn’t mean this moment will last beyond this season. Fisch has shown he can very quickly improve a team and get them elevated to a pretty high level.
And the Huskies are still recruiting at a solid level. If he can continue to build the roster to fit the systems he wants this team to operate with, then there’s a good chance we’re going to see a return to success sooner rather than later.
