That is not a typo. It’s not a football score. Eddie Smith and the Washington Husky baseball team absolutely demolished Seattle U as the Huskies got a really strong (and incredibly lopsided) 22-run victory Tuesday evening.
And I absolutely love it. This Washington Husky baseball team is in the midst of an absolutely bizarre (and also truly a chaotically fun season so far), folks. They’re not particularly impressive when looking at their overall record at 19-19 on the season.
But Washington is 9-6 against Big Ten baseball teams. The Huskies have managed to hang out in the upper third of the Big Ten baseball standings for much of the season (since conference play has started, at least) up to this point.
And now, Washington is fresh off of a 22-0 beatdown over Seattle. I mean, we’re talking about a team that lost to Saint Joseph’s and Pacific Lutheran University that just managed to score three touchdowns on Seattle U this week.

5 truly fun stats from Eddie Smith and the Washington Huskies’ dominant, 22-run win over Seattle
So let’s take a look at some pretty fun stats from this win.
- 22, the number of runs Washington won by: Look, you don’t often get to see a team win by 22 runs. So, yeah, I get this is a number that folks are familiar with if you’re even remotely familiar with what happened in this game. It doesn’t take a majorly talented data analyst to find this one. Which is why I was able to find it. And it’s great and a ton of fun.
- 9, the number of batters left on base for Seattle U: I, for one, greatly appreciate how the Huskies managed to find a way to get Seattle U to strand nine batters on base in this game. And you know, that’s a huge reason as to why the Huskies were able to win this one. It’s not insignificant.
- 8, the number of runs Washington scored in its first two innings: It’s generally a pretty dang impressive thing to be able to go out and score five runs in the first inning, but to follow that up with three more runs in the second inning to go up 8-0 doesn’t exactly happen all that often. And I, for one, appreciate being able to get a really strong, insurmountable lead over an overmatched opponent. Good job, UW.
- 7, the number of runs scored in the 7th inning: Numbers are fun to look at. I’m not exactly the brightest bulb in the drawer when it comes to going through stats and facts and figures (though it is something I enjoy) and this certainly isn’t an overly complicated stat. But Washington scored seven runs in the 7th inning. And that, my friends, is kinda fun. I’m here for it. Let’s do it more often, please.
- 1-4, which is what Tommy Brandenburg’s win-loss record looks like right now: He finally got a win to tack on to his resume. And Brandenburg had one heck of a game in this one as he faced 20 batters and only struck out a couple, but just otherwise managed to keep Seattle from doing anything at the plate.
The Washington Huskies will return to Big Ten play this weekend as they look to improve upon their 9-6 conference record.
