The most receiving yards in a single season in Washington Husky football history. Nobody has been able to do more than what Rome Odunze did when catching passes from Michael Penix Jr. during the 2023 Washington Husky football season.

We’re talking about a receiver who helped the Huskies get to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, set all sorts of records along the way (including this one that we’re talking about), and thrived in just about every measurable way for UW during the 2023 season.

And man, what a season that was.

For Odunze, we’re talking about a year in which he set the single-season receiving yards record. He caught 92 passes for an absurd 1640 yards and 13 touchdowns. There simply was no keeping up with Odunze or finding ways to consistently slow him down. Odunze was phenomenal all throughout the season.

Washington Husky football history: No Washington Husky has more receiving yards in one season than Rome Odunze

And he was consistent. Odunze delivered all throughout the season. He had five consecutive 100-yard receiving games, 10 total games of 100 or more receiving yards, and then another streak of four consecutive 100-yard games.

Some notable stats in some notable games:

  • 180 yards vs. the Michigan State Spartans
  • 128 yards vs. the Oregon Ducks (during the regular season)
  • 102 yards vs. the Oregon Ducks (in the final Pac-12 championship game)
  • 125 yards vs. the Texas Longhorns

All of these incredible performances and magical moments helped Odunze cap a career in which he caught 214 receptions for 3272 receiving yards and had 24 receiving touchdowns. In Odunze, the Washington Huskies had an incredible and dominant wide receiver who thrived in the offensive system that Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb assembled.

I mean, what we’re talking about right now was actually his second consecutive season of having 1000 or more receiving yards. Both with DeBoer and Grubb. That pairing worked well.
