Looking back at Washington’s 1000 yard receiving seasons: Reggie Williams, 2001

It’s almost impossible to overstate just how good Reggie Williams was for the Washington Huskies and how he, time and time again, absolutely thrived. The dude had an absolutely historic career in Seattle and he set multiple records on a fairly regular basis. Time and time again, he caught a ton of passes, gained a ton of yards, and scored a bunch of touchdowns.

This is the third time we’re discussing his name when it comes to talking about 1000-yard receiving seasons. Williams was just otherworldly because he accomplished that as a freshman (in 2001), sophomore, and a junior. Three seasons, three times he had at least 1000 receiving yards.

Again, it’s just about impossible to overstate how impressive that is. Williams was remarkable for the Huskies.

Washington Husky football history: Reggie Williams really did set the standard for excellent wide receivers at Washington

During his freshman season, Williams managed to snag 60 receptions for 1035 yards (which averages out to 17.3 yards per reception) across 12 games (which means he had 86.3 receiving yards per game).

Now, I absolutely need to point out that Williams did only get three touchdowns during the 2001 season, but that’s nowhere near the end of the world. The dude would go on to more than make up for that in later seasons.

It’s important to remember that this was just the first of his three 1,000-yard receiving seasons. I can’t stress enough just how insane his career was.

During the 2001 season, Williams managed to rack up 203 receiving yards against the Washington State Cougars, put up 134 yards against the Michigan Wolverines, and then 101 yards against the USC Trojans. He only had three games in 2001 where he had more than 100 yards receiving, but that’s not bad for a freshman.
