Jerome Pathon was remarkable. Reggie Williams was phenomenal. Rome Odunze had a stellar 2023 season. But well before any of those guys were tearing up opposing defenses for the Washington Husky football team, Mario Bailey was making an incredible impact for the UW football program in a pretty great year.

Back in 1991, Bailey managed to play a pretty significant role in what the Huskies wanted to accomplish on offense. He was the go-to receiving threat and he was very rarely slowed down or stopped. The man is one of the few in UW Husky history to record more than 1000 receiving yards and he did it in a pretty impressive way.

Bailey was on the receiving end of 68 passes, which he then turned into 1,163 receiving yards (at a rate of 17.1 yards per reception) and then also happened to make it into the end zone for a rather impressive 18 touchdown receptions.

Washington Husky football history: Mario Bailey had a huge impact on the Huskies’ offense in 1991

Yeah, Bailey was really good at what he did. He was, by far, the main receiving threat for the Washington Huskies during the 1991 season. I mean, there’s no doubt that Bailey was an absolute force for opposing defenses to try and reckon with and nobody really found a way to slow him down during that 1991 Washington Husky football season.

Against the Toledo Rockets, Bailey managed to rack up 170 receiving yards. He put up another 157 against the Kansas State Wildcats and then 139 yards against the ARizona State Sun Devils. Then there’s the Oregon Ducks, who he had 108 receiving yards against.

To cap off the season, and his career with the Washington Huskies, Bailey managed to record 126 receiving yards against the Michigan Wolverines.
