It’s been a surprisingly long amount of time since John Ross has played for the Washington Huskies. Which feels weird to say. In some ways, it feels like he was just tearing up opposing defenses and catching passes and making defensive coordinators feel silly. But we’re closing in on a decade since we got to see him record a ton of catches back in 2016.
Ross was really solid and impressive. He was also super reliable. During that 2016 season, Washington was able to turn to Ross to catch 81 passes, which he then in turn turned into 1150 yards of offense and 17 touchdowns.
That, my friends, is a lot of passes caught, a lot of yards gained, and a lot of touchdowns scored. It was a blast to see Ross represent the Huskies. Unless your favorite team and defensive back was trying to slow him down. Then it probably wasn’t as much fun as the rest of us were having.
Washington Husky football history: John Ross was a ton of fun to watch back in 2016
Ross managed to average 82.1 receiving yards per game as he started in 14 games for the Huskies and managed to catch just shy of a half dozen passer per game. Also, it’s worth noting that those 17 touchdown receptions are good for second-most when it comes to looking at touchdown receptions in a single season.
And it’s interesting. Ross ended his UW career with a grand total of 22 receiving touchdowns. It’s also interesting to know how explosive he was and how often he was involved in huge plays for the Huskies in that season.
Against the USC Trojans, Ross managed to record a 70-yard touchdown. He put up a 67-yard touchdown against Cal and then a 51-yard touchdown against the Oregon State Beavers. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights allowed him to get a 50-yard touchdown.
