Truly, the 2023 season truly was something rare and special for the Washington Huskies. Especially when you take a look at everything that took place on the offensive side of things. So many players were able to get their names into the Washington Husky football record book and in so many different ways.

We’ve already talked about how Rome Odunze recorded the most receiving yards in a single season in Washington Husky history. Now let’s talk about how there was another incredible member of that Husky receiving corps that joined Odunze in recording more than 1000 receiving yards in a single season.

That aerial attack that Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer assembled with Michael Penix Jr. and all those incredible receivers truly does not get the recognition it actually deserves. Because Ja’Lynn Polk was right there catching passes and getting past defensive backs and frustrating folks en route to his own solid season of more than 1000 receiving yards.

Washington Husky football history: Ja’Lynn Polk joined Rome Odunze in beating the 1000 yard receiving threshold in 2023

Polk was able to catch a grand total of 69 passes during the 2023 season and averaged 16.8 yards per reception. If you don’t want to do the math, that means he had 1,159 receiving yards for the Huskies back in 2023. Oh, and Polk also had nine touchdown receptions as well.

This was the phenomenal sort of end to a career in which Polk managed to catch 115 receptions for 1967 total yards and 16 touchdown catches. Polk was really, really good at everything he did.

  • 148 yards vs. the Stanford Cardinal
  • 127 yards vs. the California Golden Bears
  • 118 yards vs. the Oregon Ducks
  • 118 yards vs. the Michigan State Spartans
  • 101 yards vs. the Boise State Broncos
  • 102 yards vs. the Arizona State Sun Devils
  • 122 yards vs. the Texas Longhorns

And again, it’s hard enough to get one guy racking up over 1000 yards in a single season. It’s even more difficult to have two wide receivers make that happen. But Polk and Odunze did that. And Polk was really impressive all throughout the season.
