There’s no doubt that Jonah Coleman has been a force for the Washington Huskies all throughout the season. The former Arizona Wildcat running back who followed Jedd Fisch and the majority of the UW coaching staff from Arizona to Seattle this past offseason has been a monumental contributor for Washington’s offense all year long.

And now as the 2024 Washington Husky football season is wrapping up with the 2024 Sun Bowl ahead of us, it’s worth noting that there’s a good chance that Coleman could once again play a huge role for Jedd Fisch’s offense this season.

You know, that shouldn’t shock anyone. After all, Coleman has managed to run for over 1000 yards this season and he’s scored 10 touchdowns on the ground. Oh, and Coleman has been steady and consistent as he’s averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

But things might be a bit different now because Coleman will be standing alongside Demond Williams Jr. in the backfield and the true freshman quarterback’s athleticism will likely add a few wrinkles to the running game during the Sun Bowl against Louisville.

The added element of a quarterback who can run (not just to evade a pass rush on occasion, but also as a factor in designed runs and option plays) could certainly force the Louisville Cardinals to divert their attention away from Coleman a bit.

And those option plays that Brennan Carroll and Jedd Fisch have tried to implement here and there? Well, there’s truly a couple of legitimate options when it comes to where the ball will be going now that Williams is on the field as the starting quarterback.

Coleman has been great this season and that sort of consistency and those impressive performances are worth celebrating. It’s also worth acknowledging that he might be even more dangerous going forward as defenses have to pay attention to more things going on within Washington’s offense.
