Jedd Fisch has done a remarkable job of keeping the most important pieces for next season together. While there have been some portal losses, he's kept things intact in comparison to other programs that are bleeding at the seams. Fisch has also added important players to key positions to either address problems from last year or replace outgoing players.
He's added a new kicker and punter to help with some of those issues. Another offensive lineman to help in the trenches, a new cornerback that will help on the boundary, and defensive line monsters to plug the gaps and stop the run. That's all so vital but Washington still has two major needs in the portal: wide receiver and edge rusher.
Washington needs to add a veteran wide receiver
Omari Evans has graduated out and Denzel Boston is going to the NFL, as he should. Three receivers also left via the portal: Raiden Vines-Bright, Marcus Harris, and Audric Harris. That leaves the room pretty raw, with many players having very high ceilings, but only two are upperclassmen: Kevin Green Jr. and Rashid Williams.
The Huskies could use another field-stretching veteran in the transfer portal to help round out the room and bring some experience to the table.
Washington needs to add a sack-producing edge rusher
The Huskies may have the best pass rusher in the Big Ten on their roster next season with Jacob Lane. He's headed into his senior year looking to be a monster on the edge. As a junior, he had 40 tackles, 34 pressures, and 4 sacks, but he's ready for more.
That doesn't mean the Huskies shouldn't add another. He's really the only one in that position that you can count on for next season. That's not confidence-building. There's some raw talent in there, but rotating in behind a couple of veterans would be ideal.
Bonus additions:
If the Huskies would like to add another offensive lineman for depth, they could easily add another running back. However, those are both luxuries and, unlike the positions above, are a priority. There may be other additions too, but the glaring ones are edge and receiver.
