“We are playing in the Sun Bowl against Louisville, which I think they played in the ACC Conference Championship game last year. It's a really good team, it’s a team that you go back and look at their , an 8-4 football team that had a seven-point loss against Notre Dame, a seven-point loss against Miami. They beat Clemson, I think, had a field goal loss against Stanford. A really good team and beat Kentucky by 27 points.”
As Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies get set for the 2024 Sun Bowl, the head coach of the Huskies hasn’t wasted much time in providing compliments of UW’s upcoming opponent: the Louisville Cardinals. Shortly after it was announced that Washington would face Louisville in El Paso for the Sun Bowl, Fisch noted that his Huskies would be taking on “a really good team.”
“They played in the ACC Conference Championship Game last year, it’s a really good team,” Fisch explained in a press conference.
And of course, the head coach of the Huskies went through the full context of how Louisville got to this point and why the Cardinals are deserving of credit for how they’ve gotten here.
“It’s a team that, you go back and look at their an 8-4 football team that had a seven-point loss against Notre Dame, a seven points loss against Miami,” Fisch noted, highlighting how the Cardinals measured up against two of the best teams in their conference.
But Louisville also got a rather noteworthy win as well. Their resume isn’t just close losses.
“They beat Clemson,” Fisch said.

And yeah, beating a College Football Playoff competitor is a pretty impressive thing. Especially when you consider that Louisville was able to beat 10-win Clemson by 12 points. The Texas Longhorns beat them by 14 in the first round of the playoffs.
Fisch also made sure to point out one other notable win that Louisville fans almost certainly enjoyed a ton.
“A really good team and beat Kentucky by 27 points,” Fisch said.
Rivalry wins tend to be enjoyable for fans. I imagine that Louisville fans weren’t too upset to see Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals get a 27-point victory.
The Huskies can’t take this game lightly. Fisch will need to have his team ready for this. Especially considering how Louisville has played some of the better teams in the ACC this season. UW has a great opportunity to prove itself here and securing a winning season would be nice. They just can’t overlook this game.
