Indiana Hoosiers set to host Washington Huskies and College GameDay for week 9
By Ethan Lee
Saturday morning in the middle of the country, the Indiana Hoosiers are set to host the Washington Huskies and also the College GameDay crew. That’s right, Jedd Fisch is taking the Huskies right into America’s heartland and they’ll also be at the center of the college football universe for the week as they take on Curt Cignetti and the surging Indiana Hoosiers.
Indiana has been one of the most fascinating teams to keep up with all throughout the season as they, in year one of the Cignetti era, have been one of the Big Ten’s best teams. Winning at Indiana is a difficult thing to do, but Cignetti has found instant success after leaving James Madison to elevate the Hoosiers.
And so far, it’s a pretty impressive thing that he’s done. After all, Cignetti helped the Hoosiers get to a point where they’re capable of being unbeaten and also the host site for College GameDay.
That’s not insignificant. He, along with Colorado’s Deion Sanders and Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea, should probably be at (or near) the top of a ton of coach of the year type awards. And Fisch and the Huskies will get the distinct pleasure of trying to upend the upstart team right in the middle of their special moment.
There’s no way that could go poorly, right?
Washington Huskies head to Indiana as Hoosiers host College GameDay
Washington hasn’t exactly been all that great away from Seattle this season and the Huskies desperately need to find a way to get some wins if they want to make it to a bowl game to cap off this year. At 4-3, Washington just needs two more wins, but that’s going to be a tricky thing to do.
The Hoosiers have consistently looked pretty good, even if they haven’t taken on a ton of tough tests just yet. And while Washington has been tested a bit, the Huskies haven’t exactly passed all of them. Every game away from Husky Stadium has ended up being a loss.
And if UW wants to get to a bowl, they’ll need to grab two wins from the following:
- At No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers
- Vs. USC Trojans
- At No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions
- Vs. UCLA Bruins
- At No. 1 Oregon Ducks
Starting with Indiana, UW’s opponent this week, the Huskies are being given just a 16.2 percent chance of coming out on top of this game, according to the ESPN analytics matchup predictor tool which is connected to ESPN’s Football Power Index.
Washington is being given a 33.9 percent chance of beating USC, a 12.5 percent chance of beating Penn State, a 72.7 percent chance of beating UCLA, and a 12.8 percent chance of beating Oregon.
It’s starting to look like Washington might need to find a way to get an upset here in Bloomington with all of college football’s attention focused in on this weekend if they want to get to bowl eligibility. Wins are getting tough to get.
