Washington comes up just short of landing dynamic 4-star safety Gavin Williams from La Verne, California. Williams ultimately picked USC over both Washington and Notre Dame. It was a recruiting battle that came down to the end, and Jedd Fisch and Washington may have actually helped him choose the Trojans in the end. The Huskies recently landed, in the last few days, a 4-star safety of their own, Isala Wily-Ava.

While you obviously need more than one safety, and there is no guarantee on anything in recruiting, recruits do pay attention to others in their recruiting class. Wily-Ava may end up being a corner back, but most pundits project him to be a safety.

Washington added Isala Wily-Ava and lost Gavin Williams in a wild recruiting week

Crazy week in recruiting for Washington, and these are just two players. The next few weeks, things will ramp up even more as official visit season is nearly upon us. The Huskies are hosting 11 players the weekend of May 29, and 12 the following week. Williams was set to visit in that first cycle and may not end up coming now that he's committed to USC.

That first weekend has other top targets for the Dawgs, though, Jailen Hill and Dontay Tyson, to name a couple of blue-chip recruits. It's also a weekend that features a ton of already committed recruits to Washington. That will be the hard-sell weekend. If Williams does end up still taking his visit to Montlake, watch for a flip, as Fisch isn't known to give up easily when it comes to recruiting battles.

However, if it is a miss by Fisch and his staff, it's not a particularly bad one, as the class is still ranked at No. 13 right now and the Huskies just picked up a 4-star safety recruit. The recruiting wheel keeps turning, and Fisch will keep fishing.
