Former Washington Husky Hannes Steinbach has been turning a ton of heads this week at the NBA Combine. He's taller and bigger than many thought, which is always surprising in the basketball world. Usually, the surprise is that players have listings that are taller than reality. Steinbach also performed great for his position in the drills and measurements.

Without any drip of homerism, he truly may be flirting with a top-10 pick. He was already considered a safe pick, but not a flashy pick. However, his testing may prove that he has some flash, too. He isn't a normal big, and Husky fans knew that at Washington. He's an exceptional player.

According to Max Savin, he tested with an 85.5 score at center and a 95.5 at power forward. That's almost a perfect score. Both are actually high in his class. He loses some physical scores at center because he's only 6'10 and about 250 pounds. He's still got great scores as a center, but the combine may have proved he's more of a forward with the ability to play center.

The NBA Combine isn't over yet; this is just the first couple of days, and now the players will move into scrimmages. It's also a crucial point, as the measurements only give you so much. The ability to outperform your peers is an essential element in the process.

NBA Scouts want the game tape, the measurements, and the scrimmages. All of it forms a complete picture of the player on the basketball court. Steinbach will excel in the scrimmages. If there was any part of the combine that Husky fans had confidence in for Steinbach, it is in the scrimmages. He's a gamer and is weirdly impressive at rebounding and with a scorer's touch. He truly may not be flashy in the scrimmages, but he will have a good-looking stat line when it's over.

Though, as a Husky fan, it's another reminder that Washington continues to get NBA talent and absolutely waste it. The Huskies weren't a great basketball team, and yet it looks like they had a top-15 pick on their team. That's not great, and yet, even before Danny Sprinkle, the Huskies were known for this. Good for Steinbach, lame for the program.
