There’s a lot to be excited about with regards to the future of Washington Huskies football. It’s worth noting that this season has seen more than its fair share of ups and downs and UW has experienced more than a couple frustrating losses. Heck, some very winnable games got away from Jedd Fisch and the Huskies.

But, it’s also worth pointing out how winning cures everything and, in his first season in Seattle, Fisch has set the Huskies up to go to a bowl game, even with all of the changes that have taken place on Montlake in the past calendar year.

But, with the way Demond Williams played against UCLA when he had a chance to face the Bruins, and the way that Washington is working on building towards the future, securing a bowl game and the corresponding 15 practices is a pretty big deal. And it’s a pretty big deal that Washington was, once again, able to secure a perfect home record this season.

Friday evening, Washington was able to beat the UCLA Bruins 31-19 to secure a spot in a bowl game (and to stretch that home winning streak out to 20 games). Following that win, it sure seemed like UW head coach Jedd Fisch was proud of the way Washington looked at 6-5 (even if he almost certainly wants the Huskies to have a better record).

Jedd Fisch speaks after Washington Huskies take down UCLA Bruins, secure a spot in a 2024 bowl game

"Great win for our team, great win for our seniors, great win for the program to have the chance to go out and do it again in December," Fisch explained in his postgame press conference.

The win in and of itself is noteworthy, but this victory also helps the Huskies continue building towards the future of this program. And for a head coach who likes to build things like Fisch has shown the ability to do, that matters.

“Certainly excited about the opportunity to have 15 more practices and go compete for a bowl game championship," the head coach of the Huskies said.

Washington will now enjoy a bye week and the rest of the weekend before getting the chance to close out the regular season against the Oregon Ducks. And then after facing Dan Lanning’s Ducks in Eugene, UW will head on to its bowl game.

But for now? Well, for now the Huskies get to relax a bit. And that’s a good thing.

"We'll certainly enjoy tonight and we'll enjoy this weekend," Fisch said.
