With 11:41 to go in the fourth quarter of Washington's Saturday afternoon contest against the Maryland Terrapins, quarterback Demond Williams Jr. would throw for a 34-yard touchdown that not only swung the momentum of the game, but may have even saved the Huskies' season.
On the receiving end of that touchdown was true freshman wide receiver Dezmen Roebuck, his catch making it a 20-17 game in favor of the Terrapins -- a far cry from the 20-0 deficit the Huskies faced for a good portion of the late game. The touchdown made the comeback Washington was mounting feel far more achievable, and a Jonah Coleman touchdown about eight minutes of game time later sealed a 24-20 win, all of the Huskies' points unanswered.

Roebuck's hand in the comeback may be unnoticeable to some considering the surrounding superstars like Williams, Coleman, and fellow wideout Denzel Boston, but his contributions truly set a much-needed tone -- once again, not just in this game, but for UW's season as a whole.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound freshman finished his day with four receptions, 61 yards, and the aforementioned touchdown -- bringing his season totals to 14 receptions, 223 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. This ranks him third on the team in catches (behind Boston and Coleman), tied for second in receiving yards with Coleman, and second in receiving touchdowns behind Boston.
Going into Washington's Week 5 matchup against Ohio State, the Huskies lack of a No. 2 receiving target next to Boston was a clear hole the team needed. Senior transfer Omari Evans had just returned from injury, Rashid Williams got injured in the UC Davis game, and Roebuck plus fellow freshman Raiden Vines-Bright were considered too inexperienced to be expected to step into that responsibility.
Well, Roebuck proved that to be wrong. He has demonstrated a tremendous feel for the game that makes him look more like a senior than a young freshman. Across multiple games this season, Roebuck hasn't just made big plays, but has made them in big spots:
A 16-yard diving catch against Ohio State to save the Huskies from their own end of the field, a 20-yard catch for a first down in the same game that helped set up the Huskies' first score, a 23-yard reception against Colorado State that led to a go-ahead touchdown four plays later, and of course, the touchdown that put the fans of an undefeated Maryland team even further at the edge of their seats.
That touchdown prevented Washington from losing back-to-back games, instead improving 4-1 and earning its first Big Ten win of 2025. And Roebuck, an Arizona product, is quickly becoming a fan favorite in Seattle, and is shaping up to be a crucial weapon for the team this season, and for years to come.
